User interface stage -1 work -
In the User Interface Design Brief, I was tasked with working on the Targets audience. The section consisted of a section to introduce the target audience and four sub-sections given below –
-
Audience beliefs
-
Audience level
-
Audience demographics
-
Audience expectations and success criteria for the product.
Primarily, my major task included finding
the main target audience for the mobile application. The tasks were to identify
the age group of the people who will be going to use the mobile app. For this,
I went to the web address provided on the Griffith portal for the Fiscal the
Fraud Fighting Ferret website. The website was designed for the school children
to know about the cyber-bullying effects and their consequences. I have decided
to choose “School children” as my primary or target audience. Because,
educating the youth generation about cyber-bullying can help the upcoming
generation to be more aware of Internet threats. I have gone through the other
parts of the website, and I have done some research. Based on this research, my
primary findings are:
1) The
interactive media can help the children to learn faster, and far more effective
than just displaying static character on the screen. Video tutorials and
animation are the best way to transfer the information.
2) The
benefits of choosing the students as a target audience is that they can further
transfer the information to the other family members at their home.
3) Audience expectation were very clear – The audience wants the user
interface that is easy to use, and feels good. Easy to switch in between
the navigation elements of the application.
4) The school going children are the primary level audience of this app.
5) It will be very helpful for the mobile application users, if they can
get more information through the animation, and small video games etc.
After doing these research, I was
able to write up my all of the sections. I was also given the chance to
discuss my views with the other members of my team. I have presented my views
to them, and they were fully agree with my research findings. I have
looked at the other section of the design brief completed by the other
members of the team. Finally, I went through the overall final version of
the design brief, and corrected some minor mistakes/errors.
User interface stage -2 work -
In the second part of user interface design brief I was tasked to review my stage one submission work. I have completed this task with in two days on the basis of the feedback provided by the tutor. My next task was to complete the section 6 introduction part, section 6.1 and section 6.2 with one of my group member Harshvir Grewal. He is a very talented boy, according to me. We both worked really hard in gathering information that can help both of in making the section 6 of the user interface design brief.
Our task included the following work
-
- We have used various
design tools like Microsoft visio, Adobe Photshop CC to create and edit wire
frame of the mobile application.
- We
have developed the wire frame for each of the web=page. The wire
frames included the layout of the navigational and design element.
- We have developed an
flowchart to display the hierarchy of the application pages.
- We have discussed
about the selection of each design element/tools/technique mentioned in
section 6.1, 6.2.
The design brief took me almost 30
hour to finish. We have gone through various research, and two of the
persona developed by our other team member.
Based on the above research Me and
my colleague found the following observations -
1. Persona developed helped
creating the layout of the application structure.
2. Microsoft Visio
is a great tool to edit and create wire frame and flowcharts.
3. Primary audience
loves animated content, rather than getting information through static
pictures.
4. The use of the
tools provided on the Griffith portal, such as module books, readings, and the
sample artwork provided for the Fiscal the fraud-fighting ferret.
In short, I have spent most of time
in making the layout and identifying the design elements for the mobile
application. but, overall my experience with the second stage submission of UID
was exciting and challenging.
Below are the samples of the design
elements I have developed for the stage 2 submission of the User interface
design brief –
Figure 1 Card shorting activity to group the
information for application interface design.

and layout image 1.

structure and user interface.
User interface design brief stage -3 work –
The third part of the user
interface design brief was really challenging for me. I was tasked to complete
the section 7.1 and 7.2 of the design brief work. I was also assigned the task
of completing the section 7 introductions. The introduction basically included
description of test plan for the application.
I have worked with the other member of my group to finish up all the
work. I have also helped my other team
member during the stage 3 submissions. Sadly, one of our team members didn’t
work in the stage 3 submission of the design brief. But, all team member
decided to cover the part assigned to her in the user interface design
brief.
Two of our group member including
Umer, and me developed the prototype. We had a very limited time to develop the
prototype, so we decided to use an online prototype tool. The tool is very easy
to use. It offers drag and drop features to make things easy for users. Apart
from all above tasks, the entire team member also has to improve the stage-2
submission work, on the basis of the feedback provided to us. I have done my
part successfully, but due to the absence of one team member from our group we
had to work more than we were actually expecting.
I have used the following tools
during the completion of stage-3 submission –
·
Marvel - a free online prototyping tool.
·
Adobe
Photoshop - to design the layout of the
application user interface contents.
·
Microsoft
power point – to test the various transition effects between page transitions.
I have spent most of the time in
the testing section of the design brief. I have created the test plan, and
prepared the test scenario and tasks list. I also helped the other team member
in updating the prototype based upon the result gathered from testing. After
this, I have worked on the final section 8 (Final design) of the User interface
design brief with the other 2 members of the group. We were able to finish all
the sections assigned to us well before the submission date.
Moreover, I was given the task to
submit the user interface design brief. It appeared to be easy, but it wasn’t.
I have to adjust the document layout, grammar, spelling etc. I converted the
word document file to PDF format to submit on the Griffith portal, as per the
submission requirements.
All in all, working in a group to
finish every bit of the User design brief document was a fun experience for me.
I liked the course structure, because it demonstrated us all the skills that we
might need for designing a user interface in real world cases.
Below are the sample prototype I
have developed using the online prototyping tool called Marvel –
