Reflections

Personal Reflection using the STARL-P Framework (Week 11 – 13)

This reflection continues from where I left from the previous reflection (week 6 -10). In this reflection I will reflect on the knowledge and experiences I had during the semester weeks. The course was really interesting for me throughout the semester. The topmost skill that I have learned was that how to design a suitable user interface for the client or end user. As being an IT student with a major in software development, learning about UID was one of the key requirements of my degree.

Situation - The situation is the course 2505ict at Griffith University Nathan campus.  This includes the workshop learning experiences specifically for the workshop from week 9 through 13, and including an overall course experience.
Task – The task was to work on the stage 3 submissions by incorporating the skills and knowledge earned throughout the semester.  This time I was mainly assigned the task to do the testing section of the workbook document. We were two members working on the same section of the workbook document.
Action – I have completed my best to finish up the testing section of the workbook. Apart from this, I adjusted the layout of the document with some minor changes in Grammar. The group worked together to finish the workbook document for final submission (Stage 3 submission).
Result – The overall performance of the group was excellent. The quality of the work produces by the team member was up to the mark according to me. I have also produces excellent deliverables on time. Everyone contributed in the final stage development of the workbook. There were some minor mistakes in the final layout of the document, which were fixed just before the user interface design brief stage-2 submission.

Learning/Planning – The final weeks of the User interface design brief course helped me to earn the valuable experience about tool and techniques that can be used to create a suitable user interface design or end user. My learning outcomes from this course become more clear and organised, after the completion of the final weeks of study. According to me, this course included the information that I would need to understand before implementing any User interface design in the future.

Personal Reflection using the STARL-P Framework (Week 6-10)

The week 1-5 had taught me various aspects of user interface design principal. Similarly, the week 1-5 also helped me learn the more about design principals available to us. In the below sections I will reflect on the skills I have developed so far in the course 2505ict User interface design. The course is going very interesting from me since from week 1 despite of some issues I had with group assignment work on the stage 2 submission.

Situation – The situation is the course 2505ict at Griffith University Nathan campus.  This includes the workshop learning experiences specifically for the workshop from week 5 to 8.

Task – The task was to work on the stage 2 submissions by incorporating the skills and knowledge earned from workshop 5 to 8.  One of the key tasks was to work on the requirement of the group assignment for stage 2 submissions and adjusting the document as per submission requirements.

Action – I was performing well in the group by delivering my work on time. The whole group was participating well, except one of the team member who wasn’t attending the workshop classes. All the group member worked well to address the feedback provided on stage 1 submission.

Result – Overall, the performance of all the group member except one was up to the mark. There were some issues with time management. Some meeting got cancelled due to the job commitment of the team members. We have incorporated the knowledge earned from week 5 to 8 into our workbook for stage 2 submissions. This helped me and my group mates to create a final document for the stage 2 submission.

Learning/Planning – I have developed my personal knowledge about user interface design principal throughout from week 1 to week 8. But, this time I got a chance to learn some advance topics of UID. These topics were more advances from the topics that were covered in first few weeks. The workshop activities helped me to gain the practical knowledge about the UID principals. I have worked with my team members, and this helped me to realize the potential benefits and harms in working as a group. The positive points that I have encountered while working as group were following: - I got feedback on the work produces entirely by me, discussed the best approach for prototyping, designing mock-ups in the group was very helpful. Moreover, I was able to finish the stage 2 submissions by applying the knowledge from lectures and workshop classes. I am hoping that I will get the same kind of learning experience in the upcoming weeks of study as well.

Personal Reflection incorporating the STARL-P Framework

I have started my 2nd year 4th semester studying my degree in Information technology on the Nathan campus. I am enrolled in the course  - 2505ict User Interface design. The course is about learning the principals of user interface design. The course is running very interesting for me, and taught me about tools and techniques available for designing a better user interface. I am also enrolled in a group of 4 people, which has the following team number  - 1047

Situation – The situation is the course 2505ict User interface design at Griffith University Nathan campus. These situation only focuses the experiences occurred for this course during workshops week 1 to 4.

Task – I was assigned the task t complete the section 3 of the workbook document. The section 3 was the biggest section among all the section from 1 to 5. I was tasked to identify the target audience and various other characteristics of the audience. All the group members also had to complete the workshop activities to acquire the knowledge required to complete the assignment for stage 1 submission.

Action -  I completed the tasks that were assigned to me and also the group. All the group members were working together to produce the quality work. The meeting were conducted to discuss any problems.  Moreover, meeting also gave us the chance to help the other member of the team.

Result/Reflect – The group work leads me and my other team members to produce the quality work. Every team member provided his or her opinions and feedback over the stage 1 submission.  It was quite clear that everybody was satisfied with the other’s work.

Learning/Planning- I learnt a lots of new user interface design skills, which I haven’t had before. The tutor helped me to understand the new tools application and their usability’s. The group work improved my skills about working as a group, managing time, producing quality deliverables and lots more.  One of the key thing that I have figured out, while working as a group was that everybody has different in terms of thinking and making decisions. And, these decisions can be very powerful if discussed and implemented wisely. Overall, I had a great experience through week 1 to 4.
